The Most Common Patterns of ERP Integration

Posted by Keros Digital Marketing Team on December 19, 2018

There are various reasons why companies should connect their ERP to their e-commerce platform. A primary advantage is that pricing and inventory information will be available to your in-house team and your customers in real-time. Additionally, your staff is able to operate more efficiently since less manual data management is required.

The Most Common Patterns of ERP Integration-1

There are various ERP integration patterns available to meet specific business needs or to solve particular ERP problems. These are the 5 most common patterns:

  1. Migration: At a set time, data is moved from one system to another.
  2. Broadcast: On an ongoing, (near) real-time basis, data is moved from one system to multiple other systems.
  3. Aggregation: Data from multiple sources is moved/merged into one system.
  4. Bi-directional synchronization: Multiple sets of data are united in different systems. Data integrity is maintained across both synchronized systems.
  5. Correlation: This pattern is very similar to the bi-directional synchronization, but:
    • The correlation pattern will bi-directionally synchronize only those objects that are found in both systems.
    • Bi-directional synchronization will create new records if data items are found in one system and not the other.

Based on these ERP integration patterns, it is possible to implement simple or more complex connections between ERP and e-commerce platform. Which pattern or combination of patterns suits your business best highly depends on which sets of data (e.g. products, inventory, orders, customers) need to be updated at a certain time and place within your e-commerce ecosystem.
